HER SINK // Eyelid Rash, Redness, Itching
If eyes are the window to the soul, a rash, redness and/or itching could signal trouble from the outside.
First line of defense starts with trying not to rub your eyes or apply
anything external to them without first checking with a doctor (either a dermatologist or an ophthalmologist).
Usually any irritation is related to a product you use. It could be something new or a product you’ve used for years. Here’s a list of potential culprits. Remember, products don’t have to relate to the eye for them to plague them.
- Perfumes or scented creams
- Balsam of peru
- Preservative ingredients that are present in cosmetic products such as paraphenyenediamine
- Rubber pads used to apply make-up
- Nail Polish on the nails- causes eyelid issues when we rub our eyes with our fingers
- Medications used for or around the eyes
- Make-up
- Soaps and detergents
The eyes are incredibly sensitive and need special attention.
If you suspect an allergy, a patch test is in order. Many dermatology offices offer patch testing. Investigate the cause and in no time those beautiful eyes will be catching everyone’s attention once again.
